A great music video rendition of Byron Cage and Freda Tapp’s song Thou Art a Shield for Me – based on Psalm 3.

“Many are they increased, that trouble me.
Many are they that rise up against me.
Many there be that say of my soul,
‘There is no help for him in God'”

“But Thou Oh Lord, are a shield for me,
my glory and the lifter of my head.”

etc.

Byron Cage grew up in Michigan, spending time in Detroit and Grand Rapids during his formative years, and attended Morehouse College in Atlanta. He served as music director at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit for a while, before serving churches in Fort Washtington, MD and Richmond, VA.

This version of the song, slightly modifies the opening lines, which Cage (and Tapp?) wrote as:

“Lord, how are they increased that trouble me,
Many are they that rise up against me.
Many there be which say of my soul,
There is no help for him in God.”
