Committee on Home Mission and Church Extension

The Committee on Home Missions and Church Extension, or CHMCE for short, deals with the church planting work of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC). The CHMCE originally appeared online as a section of the opc.org page, but as the CHMCE grew, that arrangement became too confining. In order to keep information flowing freely, and to have more control over handling and updating their content, the CHMCE needed its own website.

They turned to Five More Talents. We have worked with them to build their website twice, first in 2010, and, when that site grew outdated, again in 2015. The first site, while it gave them their own domain name, was built before smartphones dominated the market, and was not mobile friendly. In 2014, the opc.org site was redesigned, and a year later, the CHMCE also decided to update.

CHMCE’s new site corresponds visually with the OPC homepage, showing their affiliation, yet still displays the CHMCE’s individualized logo. The site is now mobile friendly, supported by a customized WordPress theme.

Another feature of the new CHMCE site is the map. Connected to Google Maps, it shows the OPC’s church plants in the U.S., with a popup for each, displaying a picture of the home missionaries involved in the work and a link for more information.

Since the CHMCE posts a high quantity of information on their site, with updates at least every month, Five More Talents helped them with information architecture: categorizing the content, setting up tags, and determining what information could be consolidated vs. what needed its own page. We also provide them with ongoing web hosting, with website traffic analysis reports and security monitoring and backups.

“Five More Talents understands churches and their special needs and especially how Reformed and Presbyterian churches think and do ministry. They have helped scores of congregations in our denomination be more effective in communicating who they are and what they believe.”
